We launched our website and telephone advice service at the beginning of June and have had a steady stream of calls and website visitors. At the last count we had approximately 670 providers advertising 685 courses on our website, and are currently receiving 150 website visits per week. As well as a database of forthcoming courses, the website contains a range of useful information, factsheets and discussions relevant to workforce development.

Mind the Gap: Developing third sector people and skills

The Workforce Hub is hosting a national skills conference on October 21, 2008 at Central Hall Westminster, London.

Join us at this conference to find out how you can find the resources to develop the skills of your organisation’s most important asset - its staff and volunteers.

Confirmed speakers include:
• Phil Hope, Minister for the Third Sector
• David Lammy, Minister for Skills
• Jane Slowey, CEO of Foyer
• David Brindle, editor of Society Guardian.
We are looking for organisations to be involved in the conference:
• Do you regularly identify the learning and skills needs of people in your organisation and, do you develop a plan to meet these needs?
• Do you get the resources you need to do this from building the cost into your funding bids and/or contracts?
If you answered yes to these questions - and enjoy sharing your learning and good practice with others in the sector - how about facilitating a table at the conference?

We will pay all costs for the day for those who are keen to facilitate one of our round table discussions. These discussions will involve giving a brief description of how you identify and acquire the resources to invest in skills.

Third Sector National Learning Alliance (TSNLA) Survey

The Third Sector National Learning Alliance (TSNLA) is a growing national alliance of voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises providing learning and training. It aims to offer a coherent national ’voice’ from and for Third Sector providers across government departments and other important bodies, and a forum for developing Third Sector ideas and proposals.

The TSNLA wants to build a far-reaching national communication ’tree’ connecting existing Third Sector networks and contacts that can be used to circulate and cascade information, consult on key issues, and develop Third Sector ideas and proposals.

A leaflet and questionnaire (available from anthea.rose@niace.org.uk) are part of a survey to gather the information needed for the communication ‘tree’. Please a) forward it to Third Sector organisations you think should be involved; and b) if you are a Third Sector organisation and if the questionnaire is relevant to your work, please complete and return it by Wednesday 30^th July to anthea.rose@niace.org.uk. It should take about 20 minutes.

Paper copies and large print or Braille versions of the leaflet and questionnaire are available. If you would like any of these, please contact Rachel.hughes@niace.org.uk.

Learning Curve are pleased to announce that the ladder4learning website and associated resources will be available once more from June 2nd 2008. This has been made possible by a three year project delivered by Learning Curve through funding from the Big Lottery which will see extensive development of the website and an associated telephone & e-mail information/help service for the South West and parts of the South East.

Re-establishing the ladder4learning website at the beginning of June will be the first stage in a continuing programme to develop these resources to support workforce development in the voluntary and community sector in these areas.

Any feedback and comments relating to these resources and suggestions concerning how they can be developed to address your workforce development needs as an individual and/or organisation are most welcome. The new project team will endeavor to incorporate such suggestions as the project progresses.
